An SAP module label is a starting point for a search, not a complete requirement. Before a recruiter starts sourcing an India-based team, the hiring manager should define the landscape, business process, project phase and work that each person must own.
Define the work before sourcing
Start with the employing entity and the employee work location. Then record the SAP environment, required module or platform, implementation or support context, and essential responsibilities. Explain whether the candidate will configure a process, develop an interface, administer a platform or lead delivery. The assessment should test those responsibilities rather than a generic catalogue of SAP questions.
Agree the assessment scenario
Ask the interviewer to agree an example scenario before reviewing profiles. A functional consultant might explain a business-process decision and its testing implications. A developer might discuss an authorised integration or troubleshooting example. Ask what the candidate personally delivered and what remains unverified.
Set the overseas working arrangement
For an overseas employer, practical fit also includes working hours, time-zone overlap, interview availability, India work city and notice-period flexibility. The employment, payroll and legal arrangements should be settled separately from the recruitment brief.
Compare evidence consistently
A useful shortlist note separates the requirement, candidate evidence, evidence status, unresolved questions and the next assessment owner. That makes it easier to compare candidates against the same work rather than a familiar title.

Discuss your hiring requirement.
Match the assessment to the responsibility
For a functional consultant, a useful discussion could explore how a business-process requirement becomes a configuration decision and a test scenario. For a technical developer, the panel might discuss an integration requirement, error handling and a testing approach. For an administrator, it could examine operational controls and a hypothetical incident. These are illustrative assessment ideas, not a complete interview bank or a claim about candidate competence.
The interviewer should ask what the person personally owned, what constraints influenced the decision, how they checked the result and what they would do differently. Someone who participated in a project may have a different level of responsibility from someone who designed or approved a solution. A shortlist note should make that distinction visible.
Build a shortlist note that supports a decision
Use five fields: the requirement, the example discussed, the evidence status, the unresolved question and the next assessor. An illustrative entry might read: “Requirement: explain integration error handling. Evidence: candidate described an approach during a recruiter discussion. Status: candidate-stated and recruiter-discussed. Gap: panel has not tested failure scenarios. Next owner: integration lead.” This is a format example, not an actual candidate record.
Do not turn that note into a pass or fail for the whole role. The employer's panel must choose job-related assessment criteria, judge the evidence and make the selection decision. Certifications, project titles and years of experience can inform questions but do not remove the need to assess the work.
Keep the India hiring plan practical
Agree the India work city, working model, time-zone overlap and interview capacity. Ask about a candidate's stated notice period and any uncertainty; do not promise a joining date before it is confirmed. If the project has a fixed start, discuss how the employer will handle a later arrival rather than quietly changing the search criteria.
Write down the employing entity and the boundary between recruitment and other services. Payroll, employer-of-record arrangements, project delivery, software licensing and legal or immigration advice should not be assumed to form part of a recruitment mandate. Any additional service needs its own confirmed scope.
Use the brief in your first recruitment conversation
Send a concise, non-confidential requirement containing the platform, module or work area, project phase, essential responsibilities, location and interview owner. Redact system credentials, architecture secrets, identifiable client records and commercial project documents. The first call should resolve the gaps in the requirement and agree the next step.
Download the SAP hiring checklist, explore the SAP employer hiring toolkit, or use the specialist scorecard. Share your requirement to discuss the available recruitment scope.
